ATHLETE'S STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING FOR COMBAT SPORTS

The plan was developed with the specifics of combat sports in mind, which are disciplines based on repetitive efforts of maximum intensity, interspersed with short breaks. The main goal of the program is to improve punching power, the ability to repeat effort, grip and clinch strength, and joint resilience to loads resulting from a high volume of technical training.

The training focuses on four key areas:

1. Power and explosiveness
Plyometric exercises, Olympic lifts, and work on torso rotation and hip extension. The aim is to increase punching power, dynamic entry into range, and the speed of the first movement.

2. Maximal and functional strength
Building a strength base in the legs, hips, back, and grip. Strong foundations translate into an advantage in the clinch, defense against takedowns, and more effective ground work.

3. Specific endurance
Interval training adapted to the time structure of a round. This refers to the ability to repeat high-intensity effort and faster recovery between exchanges, rather than long-distance running.

4. Mobility, stabilization, and injury prevention
Particular emphasis on the neck, shoulder girdle, hips, and knees. Exercises improve movement control and range, which, with a large volume of sparring, is crucial for training continuity.

The plan is periodized and adapted to the stage of preparation. Loads, volume, and intensity are controlled to support the development of athletic form without interfering with technical training and sparring.

The program can be modified depending on the fight formula, weight category, training experience, and the current needs of the athlete.

Remember that…

Proper physical preparation is not an addition to technical training. It is its foundation.

Without a solid strength and endurance base, even the best technique will eventually deteriorate. Fatigue spoils technique faster than an opponent.

Regular work on strength, power, and specific endurance allows you to maintain a high pace until the last round, not just in the first few minutes. The body tolerates a high volume of sparring, clinch work, and intense exchanges better.

A well-designed training program reduces the risk of shoulder, neck, and lower back strains. It improves regeneration and ensures you enter the mat or cage ready when the fight truly reaches its peak.

WHAT WILL YOU GAIN FROM THE PLAN?

Stronger and faster strikes
You will improve power generation from your hips and torso, which directly translates into striking power. It's not about a single punch, but about maintaining power throughout every round.

Endurance that doesn't run out in the second round
Working on the ability to repeat effort and faster recovery between exchanges.

An advantage in the clinch and grappling
Stronger back, grip, and core make a real difference in fighting for control and defending against takedowns.

Stronger neck and shoulders
Lower risk of overuse injuries and better resilience in contact.

Better hip mobility
Higher and more confident kicks, more efficient ground work.

Greater fatigue resistance
Improving the ability to maintain power and performance when your opponent starts to slow down.

A plan tailored to your discipline and preparation stage
There are no random exercises. Each element has a specific purpose and does not interfere with technical training.
